Postoperative Cerebral Edema Occurring in Children with Slit Ventricles Pediatrics 99:625-630, Eldredge,E.,et al, 1997 See this aricle in Pubmed Article Abstract This report describes two children with known SV who developed symptomatic cerebral edema after uncomplicated orthopedic surgery.One had a fatal outcome.Hyponatremia occurring in the postoperative period was the likely precipitating factor.Recommendations for recognizing,treating,and potentially preventing this catastrophic complication are discussed.
